Gospel

What must I do to be saved?

That is an excellent question. And the answer to it is ….”respond to the Gospel“. Someone may be asking, “What is the Gospel?” Yeshua made the Gospel simple enough for a child to understand, yet it is the most powerful thing of God! (Romans 1:16) Gospel simply translates to “Good News“! To keep it as simple as possible we will explain it in just four verses. In order for you to really see and appreciate the good news we need to recognize the contrast to the bad news. When you do see the difference you will love and desire the good news.

  • For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. – Romans 3:23
This verse tells the well known truth that every single person on earth has sinned, from the most evil criminal in the world to the sweetest old lady that bakes cookies for the neighborhood kids. This applies to a “white lie” and stealing something as small as a pen, to adultry, organized crime, and murder, and everything in between. So we all can agree we all have sinned.
  •  For the wages of sin is death… – Romans 6:23a
Ok, we can agree every single person has sinned. I’ve sinned. You’ve sinned. So what’s the big deal? We all have sinned. The big deal is in the first part of the Romans 6:23. Because of our sin we are deserving of death.  That word death is speaking of a spiritual death, which means condemnation and damnation. For example, when you work at a job and at the end of your work schedule you are owed wages that you deserve. In the same way, when you work your life in sin apart from Christ, at the end of your life when you take your last breath you will also be deserving of wages, wages of death – eternal separation from God forever in hell.
  • But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23b
But God demonstrates His own love toward us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
     – Romans 5:8

Yeshua offers a free gift of eternal life in Romans 6:23a because he does not desire us to perish but to have eternal life with Him. This is the greatest love of all. To demonstrate this love while we were sinning enemies of God, not desiring the things of God but desiring our own will Yeshua died for us. Because He was the only person ever without sin He was the perfect sacrifice and substitute for your sin. In a sense Yeshua traded places with you, with us, even though we were not deserving of it. What a wonderful love and a wonderful savior!
  • If you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. – Romans 10:9
God has made it simple for us to receive this free gift of eternal life that He offers. He did all the work on the cross. All we need to do is confess and believe Jesus by faith as the verse says.
