As you drive past the Pheonix valley east on the 60 freeway you will pass through the beautiful creation of the scenic canyons of Queen Creek wash and the small mining town of Globe, then in the distance you will see it on hwy 70, "Entering San Carlos Apache Reservation." Welcome to the rez. The San Carlos Reservation is home to about 10,000 Apaches on approximately 1.9 million acres of land. It is one of the larger reservations in Arizona, but one of the poorest reservations in the United States. The Apache people of San Carlos are very warm, friendly, and patriotic. Just like Nathanael would ask "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" (John 1:46), at first glance one might ask "Can anything good come out of San Carlos?" But as you glance longer through the eyes of our Lord Jesus you will fall in love with the people of San Carlos. There are many places on the rez that are very dear to our hearts, two of which are the Youth Home and Shelter Care. The Lord has opened doors to do outreaches to the San Carlos rez and now the outreaches included the students of Sherman Indian HS in Riverside, California. God is great and we look forward with great expectation as the Lord leads us to share and serve to the people of San Carlos. |
